>> in just a few moments the western span of the bay bridge will take on a whole new look. you are looking live right now at the bridge and the debut of its spectacular new lights after several weeks of testing the 25,000 lights that will embellish 1.8 miles of the bridge will make it the largest led light sculpture in the world. all the restaurants along the waterfront book for tonight event. 25,000 lights will pulse and shimer in non-repeating pattern controlled by software. the software interprets the energy in motion of waves clouds fog and fish even the cars and trucks that are driving there on the bridge. now the lights are on the outside of the structure so they are not will not distract

area. he has the latest on live doppler 7 hd. >> look at this before the lights actually come on. look at live doppler 7 hd. wide spread rainfall in the north bay right now. most of it not heavy although we pick up lots of moisture in the radar sweep up in the atmosphere but most likes are reporting only light rain on the ground and moving down on the peninsula right now parts of san francisco loop radar image and sweeping in from the west eastward starting to mav south ward a bit as well. so most of the rain so far has been confined to the north bay but as i pointed out we now begin to get late rain in san francisco. parts of the pens will and seem to be a batch of heavier steady rain offshore which is likely to move in land any minute now. meanwhile we have winter storm warning in effect until tomorrow nature at 10:00 o'clock for much of the central sierra northern sierra and mountains of northern california. many locations can see up to continue inches of snow or more from this storm with strong gusty winds up around 70 miles an hour and

oakley has been arrested. police want him charged with homicide for his passenger death. >> want to take you back now to the bay bridge where she can see over my shoulder here the lights are now on. they are sparkling here on the bay bridge. 25,000 led lights. now embellish 1.8 miles of the bridge. this is is now the largest led lit sculpture in the world and for the next two years will be seeing these lights on in the evening hours. come on at dusk and stay on overnight. certainly be quite a sight for people driving along the embarcadero in san francisco but we are told drivers on the bridge won't actually be able to see these lights. they will not be distracted by them. check in again later in this newscast. >> jubilant city leaders gather with oakland police today to announce recovery of 800,000 dollar jewelry box stolen in january from the museum of california. they also have a suspect under arrest. here's fv laura anthony. >> before is that the chest.

yes. >>reporter: nearly two months after valuable historic box was stolen from the oakland museum of california a trio of beaming police officers package with the taking attached back into the building. >> today history was restored to the city of oakland. and state of california. rare 19 century piece was discovered by oakland police monday inside a business. it was stolen january 7th in the second of 2 recent burglary at the museum. suspect in both incidents is a 45-year-old parolee named andre t frank lip. how does the box look. >> it looks wonderful. >> some piece that is capture your imagination this box and collection does i gts guess that's why it's been stolen twice now. >>reporter: it was stolen and recovered once before in 1978. this time police credit the museum extensive video surveillance system with helping temperature crack the case. box made of gold

found 29-year-old ryan watching her in bed. she screamed. he ran away. she then called 911. police were in the area and they tracked him down right away. on probation for burglary. he was wearing an ankle bracelet to track the moves at the time. >> very public domestic violence case back in court today. this time before the state supreme court. lower court overturned the second degree murder verdict of man who killed his girlfriend in front of her children and now the victim's family hopes the state highest court will financially bring them justice. more now from 7 news reporter lee ann. >>reporter: terri goes by the name terri beltran. that's how highly publicized this case has been. in 2000 he murdered his ex girlfriend clare joyce in front of her children. this outraged those in the domestic violence community because beltran had a documented history of domestic violence against her and was on probation. but beltran had

already fled to mexico. he was eventually caught and later tried. he was found guilty of second degree murder. liz was the prosecutor. >> it gave the family klovrnlt it's what we believe was just based on the evidence. >>reporter: but beltran conviction was overturned by a state appeals court. his attorney had argued beltran was provoked by the victim when she told him she was pregnant and had had an abortion. because this sent him over the edge, his attorney claims it should have been manslaughter and not murder. they are asking for the another trail. he remains in custody. his attorney did not weren't to comment. professor of little with is hastings college of the law. >> we should have got an instruction that was correct on manslaughter and the argument here is instruction he got went right. >>reporter: now the california supreme court must decide if the original conviction should be upheld. >> it doesn't matter what instruction he got. right or

ground with any intensity yet. so it lacks more impressive than it actually is. loop rid arrest image 4 as we close in the north bay. you can see sonoma county really getting it writ now. santa rose, healdsburg, petaluma and into parts of marin county as well over into napa moving inland writ now but again most of this is light rainfall although certainly pockets of moderate to heavy rain developing as you can see open the peninsula san francisco golden gate pushing out over the bay we have rain developing now it's going to be a wet soggy night here in the bay area. so live view from the roof top camera looking at the lights on the bay bridge under damp conditions is 52 degrees if san francisco. 54 in oakland. 53 in san jose. another view from the other side of the bay bridge from our high definition south beach camp are downtown san francisco also under damp conditions. we are looking at temperature readings of 49 in santa rosa. 52 in nap a.51 in livermore. these are our forecast featur

features. we'll see cold rain develop overnight. scattered showers breezy conditions for most of the day tomorrow. and more showers are likely on thursday. so we have a couple days of this raw winter weather coming our way. satellite radar composite image shows the movement of the cold front over the last 12 hours bringing us this precipitation and once again winter weather through thursday. we weren't start to see it dissipate until friday. start our forecast animation 11:00 o'clock tonight. at which point it will be wet just about everywhere in the bay area. front sequential through during the over tonight hours. 5:00 o'clock tomorrow morning beginning rush hour. pockets of written fall and showers wet spots morning commute during the day tomorrow we sea scattered showers periods of rain break of sunshine then tomorrow over nature tomorrow night into thursday morning then next wave of rainfall comes in just in time for the morning commute on thursday. that also will swing through followed by pockets of showers and periods of rain during the day on thursday. tapering off about 11:00 o'clock thursday

opportunity to try to link all that with the newly developing genetic information. >>reporter: neal directs the institute for human genetic at uc sf and says the gene analysis took more than a year with computer and high end lab equipment running 24 hours a day. but the results could potentially benefit research into a wide cross section of diseases. >> things like hyper cholesterol, heart disease, hyper tension, prostate cancer, die pwishingts and because the database includes information on habit such as smoking and drinking, along with where patients live, researchers hope to match disease not only to genetic but outside risk factors as well. >> can assemble that you will information into a model for example how disease develops and progresses and that should give us clue about not just treatment but prevention. >>reporter: the database project will have benefits well beyond the bay area. kaiser uc sf team in the process of making information from that database available to
